Tree-Shrine Ceremony: A Memorial of Great Women

July 24, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

“The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before.” ~Albert Einstein

As an extension of the “Spirituality Without Superstition”, Daniel Lev Shkolnik is inviting the NOSHA community to be part of his humanist ceremony celebrating women.

You will receive a candle lantern that you will carry through the night as you visit the altars set up at seven oak trees. Each altar will be dedicated to a different woman from the past. You will find a candle will be burning for her as well as a scroll of paper where you will read about who she was and what made her life such a powerful light to others.

* The organizers ask that you come dressed in all white and bring an offering of flowers and/or fruit for the shrines.
* Also, they ask that you please shut off cellphones when entering the ceremony space (or simply do not bring them).
* Please RSVP so they will have enough lanterns. (Feel free to bring your own candle/lantern.)

Some of the women are well-known, others not. Some we don’t even know their names—just their deed. But all of them are women to be respected and emulated for their wisdom and bravery.

After visiting their shrines, the group will gather in a nearby field to share stories of women in our lives who we would like to commemorate and to eat a light meal of fruit and vegetables by the light of the torches.
