Separation of Church and State: It’s not just the law, it’s a good idea!

Article Three of the Massachusetts Constitution, and why it is important today.

Our guest speaker will be Robert Wilfong, who has an amazing knowledge of American History (and a Master’s Degree in the same), stumbled on the curious history of Article Three of the Massachusetts Constitution (written by John Adams and used as a template for the U.S. Constitution) and he will discuss that the separation of church and state is not something handed down from on high by the “Founding Fathers” and upheld by the decisions of the Supreme Court.

As long as there are churches, as long as there are states, the relationship between the two will be vexed and unsettled. The cause of separation has been fought out on the ground again and again, and an excellent example of this history is Article Three.
