FREE SCREENING – Primer

March 27, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

IMPORTANT NOTE: This film is promoted by Shotgun Cinema and will not have a NOSHA host. We are promoting it because it is FREE and may be of interest to some of you. To find out more, please feel free to contact the venue directly at (504) 948-9998 or info@marignyoperahouse.org

This event, timed to the National Evening of Science on Screen, parallels screenings in 25 states of STEM-related movies. It’s followed by a discussion with Tulane University physicist Lev Kaplan, who will give an introduction to chaos and nonlinearity.

Made for $7,000, Primer is about two budding tech entrepreneurs who accidentally create a time travel device that can be used for very short-scale time travel (think “a few hours,” not “a few centuries.”) What follows in the days after their discovery is a complex, increasingly chaotic mashup of timelines, duplicate selves and ethical problems; the movie itself becomes a riveting temporal puzzle-box that rewards investigation and multiple viewings.
